Chem-Dry’s Low Startup Overhead Appeals to Entrepreneurs
No leases, no stockpiles of inventory and a reasonable entry point add up to make Chem-Dry the franchise of choice for entrepreneurs around the world
“I want to take my destiny into my own hands.”
That’s one of many comments heard from potential Chem-Dry carpet cleaning franchise owners in the past few years, as layoffs and uncertainty became commonplace in a struggling economy. Many would-be entrepreneurs began looking at franchises and were put off by high entry costs, as well as the ongoing headaches of leasing storefronts, keeping inventory and more.
“People were fed up with working for someone else, especially when they could be let go with little or no notice,” says Chelsey Sanders, Franchise Development Director. “At the same time, they didn’t want to completely drain their retirement savings to start a business while the economy was still rough. Chem-Dry provides the perfect solution.”
Franchise owner sets initial investment
Because some people may want to dive into a Chem-Dry carpet cleaning franchise full time, while others may be looking at a side operation, the startup cost spectrum has a wide range.
“Our estimated initial investment is between $42,000 and $142,820,” Chelsey says. “It boils down to the type of equipment package and the van that a franchise owner prefers. We take a look at every individual’s goals, both at startup and down the road, to help determine what that start-up package is going to look like.”
Chem-Dry will finance portions of the initial fee for a 56-month period, which also factors into the decision-making. A down payment of at least $6,000 is required, giving many qualified entrepreneurs a set figure to work with.
“The financing does not include the van, working capital or other startup costs,” explains Chelsey. “But those costs become clear as we work to help each owner create the parameters of the business. Every step of the way, we’re working with him or her to create a solid, affordable business that is generating revenue from day one.”
Chem-Dry allows you to keep your day job
With more than 3,500 carpet cleaning franchises in the United States and around the world, serving 10,000 homes a day, Chem-Dry knows the value of scalability. That’s why many potential franchise owners are encouraged to begin small and then ramp up as interest and bookings grow.
“A lot of people are very excited about owning their own business but aren’t quite ready to give up their day job just yet,” Chelsey says. “That’s fine. As a home-based business that doesn’t require a storefront or a warehouse full of inventory, Chem-Dry works at every level. Someone can start out small, booking jobs on the weekend, and then as their business takes off through their own marketing efforts, or through the business that we at corporate have steered their way, they can look realistically at becoming involved in the franchise full-time. Many of our largest franchise operations have grown in just this manner.”
