New Chem-Dry Franchise Owner Growing Business in the Ozarks

David Tucker wasn?t sure what his next career step would be until he discovered the Chem-Dry franchise.

David Tucker opened his Chem-Dry in spring 2013 in the Missouri Ozarks.

David Tucker, 33, is a perfect example of the kind of person you run into a lot in today?s economy ? someone with a lot of skills and plenty of ambition, but without the specialized degree needed to land a professional-level job. For a while it didn?t matter. His father owned a software business that catered to hospitals, and David had the skills to create sophisticated online training manuals to help nurses and technicians learn how to operate new medical equipment. But when his father got an incredible job offer and decided to close the business, David knew he was out of luck.

Then, serendipity.

At the last job for his final client, David?s father got an unexpected visitor in his hotel room. A Chem-Dry carpet cleaning franchise had been hired to clean the carpets, and the two struck up a conversation. How much did it cost to start? Is it a good company? Do you like it?

A round of research began.

?He called me up ? my wife and I were sitting on the couch watching TV, wondering what to do ? and he did a little webinar with me, and we started researching the brand and looking at numbers. It looked like a good opportunity.

?The opportunity to generate a lot of revenue was great, and the chance to work my own schedule was also attractive, especially since we have a 5-year-old and one on the way.?

David?s business, the aptly-named New Life Chem-Dry, started serving customers in the Missouri Ozarks this fall, and it?s been growing steadily. He also has an ace in the hole for the future ? his wife, Holly.

She trains people at the Expedia?s call center in Springfield on how to deliver excellent customer service ? that?s actually how she and David met. Years ago, David decided to take a job in the call center ? and Holly was his trainer. ?I realized I could not sell water to a horse, so I quit working there, and she said ?I?m glad you quit, because now I can talk to you.? ? They soon became a couple. Their second child is due soon, and Holly will be at home for at least a while once their next child is born. She?ll be taking calls for David?s business.

?I?ll have an incredible customer service representative!? he says. ?Once we get to the point where we have enough revenue to sustain it, we?ll get her fully in that role.?
