Carpet Cleaning Franchise Gives Dad Flexibility for Family Time

Former car salesman shares why he decided to grow a Chem-Dry carpet cleaning franchise in upstate New York

Dan-LindeyBeing a car salesman isn?t the easiest line of work. For 16 years, Dan Lindsay worked 60-hour weeks, arriving at 9 a.m., staying until 9 p.m., working just about every Saturday. He wanted to do something new, something with more flexible hours, something he would own and control. Internet research led him to the Chem-Dry carpet cleaning franchise, one of the best low-investment franchises in the United States and a mainstay on Entrepreneur magazine?s list of top franchises for 25 years in a row.

Dan started his business, Thousand Island Chem-Dry in April 2013, serving Jefferson and Lewis counties. He is happy with the business? growth so far. ?We have some military bases here, and I?ve been working with some of the military housing complexes. Once people see how well it works, hiring Chem-Dry is a no-brainer.?

?The hot carbonation process sets us apart,? he says of Chem-Dry?s proprietary system, which uses green-certified cleaning solutions. ?It lifts dirt and stains from the bottom up and uses a lot less water and solution, so it dries a lot quicker. Local restaurants and banks have been very receptive.?

Growing his business has kept Dan busy ? he?s working about as many hours now as he did on the car lot ? but the big difference is that he now controls his schedule and works from home. That has allowed him to spend more time with his 13-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter, taking them boating on Lake Placid in the summer and ice fishing in the winter.

?Without a doubt, I?m getting in more quality time with them,? he said.
