Chem-Dry’s Continued Growth In Challenging Times Demonstrates Brand’s Durability
2020 will be one for the books in terms of a tough landscape, yet Chem-Dry has added needed services and new franchises to answer its challenges
When 2020 began, it looked like a year where the U.S. economy would continue to grow, and small businesses would continue to expand across the landscape. The COVID-19 pandemic upended all that, yet Chem-Dry floor cleaning franchises were still able to find a foothold.
That’s because Chem-Dry franchise owners were uniquely positioned to meet the moment. In addition to offering services that focused on whole-home cleaning — of huge interest to consumers — they also had the training and support to best leverage their assets in a challenging economy.
New services created more avenues for sales
On the product front, Chem-Dry rolled out its new MicroPro Shield sanitizing service. “This amped up an already robust line of cleaning and disinfecting options and provided a gateway for franchise owners to pursue sales,” says Doug Smith, Senior Vice President of Franchise Development.
“People were pulling back on their spending throughout the second quarter, and Chem-Dry franchise owners were feeling it,” Smith says. “Our R&D team, which is always looking way down the road, was able to get these new cleaning and sanitizing services out the door and into franchise owners’ hands. They grabbed them and got busy and were able to get their bookings and revenues back up more quickly than they might have otherwise.”
Training and support also help franchise owners
Another plus of being a Chem-Dry franchise owner? Comprehensive onboarding and ongoing support. That’s everything from mentoring and business coaching to marketing and online outreach. During the economic downturn last spring, that translated into helping franchise owners find new and unique ways to break through to clients.
“A lot of businesses weren’t able to hang on, because they had no pandemic-related messaging to connect with their customers,” Smith says. “Chem-Dry franchise owners had a lot to work with. Not only were our existing Healthy Home services of interest, something like MicroPro Shield was the answer a lot of business owners had been looking for. It’s still rough out there, but things are getting better and our franchise owners are well positioned to come back strong and have a great 2021.”
