An independent air quality laboratory found that Chem-Dry’s Hot Carbonating Extraction process removes an average of 98.1% of allergens from carpet and upholstery, and when our sanitizer is included, 89% of airborne bacteria.

The laboratory results are in, and Chem-Dry has more proof for customers that we’re not only the world’s largest carpet cleaning franchise, we’re also the leader in keeping homes healthy — and our franchisees will be able to leverage that news as they grow their businesses.

We recently commissioned a leading independent air quality laboratory to study the effect of our Hot Carbonating Extraction process on reducing allergens and bacteria within homes. The lab found that our franchisees remove an average of 98.1% of common household allergens from the carpets and upholstery they clean. The study also showed that our cleaning process, when combined with a sanitizer, eliminates 89% of the airborne bacteria in homes. The study was conducted in a cross-section of consumer homes in the U.S. and internationally, and the common household allergens tested were cat and dog dander and dust mites.

“We were pleased that our cleaning process shined through with superior results in this study, solidifying Chem-Dry’s position as the Healthy Home brand in the carpet cleaning industry,” said Dan Tarantin, CEO of Chem-Dry. “Chem-Dry has long prided itself on delivering superior carpet and surface cleaning results while using Green-Certified cleaning solutions that are safe for kids and pets. Now we have proof for our customers that we do an incredible job of making their homes healthier.”

An incredible marketing tool for carpet cleaning franchise owners

The study will be a key marketing tool for Chem-Dry franchisees as they attract new customers and launch their businesses.

“The carpet cleaning industry is vast. Americans spend about $3.9 billion a year on carpet cleaning, and there is a lot of business to be had by professional operators,” said D’Wayne Tanner, vice president of franchise development for Chem-Dry. “These results are something that our franchisees will be able to leverage as they market to customers. Customers want healthy homes. Our cleaning process has always been extremely effective, safe and healthy. Now we have proof that the results of our cleaning are incredible, too.”

Chem-Dry is the world’s largest carpet cleaning franchise with more than 3,500 locations that serve 10,000 homes a day. It is Entrepreneur magazine’s top-rated carpet cleaning franchise and one of its Top 10 choices for low-cost and home-based franchises. The company can be started with as little as $10,000 down, and the average Chem-Dry franchisee generates more than $270,000 in annual revenue.*

While other carpet cleaners compete for jobs solely on the basis of price, Chem-Dry franchisees are able to win customer jobs and command a premium price based on the quality and healthfulness of the cleaning. The allergen study is expected to help franchisees win more customers, and also win more frequent repeat business as customers understand the value Chem-Dry delivers.

Why carpet and upholstery cleaning is important

Americans spend an average of 90 percent of their time indoors, so having carpet and upholstery professionally cleaned is essential to maintaining a healthy home, especially for the 1 in 5 Americans who suffer from allergies. Carpets, area rugs and upholstered furniture help indoor air quality by acting as giant filters that absorb dirt, allergens and bacteria, but they need to be professionally cleaned to remain optimally effective. Without regular professional cleanings, bacteria and other unhealthy elements that have built up in the carpets get stirred up, become airborne and circulate throughout the home when there is activity in the room. Our ability to provide a deep clean that removes a high percentage of allergens in carpets and upholstery, as well as bacteria from the air, demonstrates how effective our process is at creating healthier homes.

Unlike other carpet and upholstery cleaning services in the market today, we use a proprietary hot carbonating cleaning process that harnesses the power of millions of microscopic bubbles to penetrate deep into carpet fibers, lifting particles to the surface so they can be easily extracted. Our primary cleaning solution, The Natural®, is green-certified and doesn’t contain any detergents or harsh chemicals, making it safe and nontoxic for kids and pets. Additionally, we use 80 percent less water than typical steam cleaning, so carpets dry in a couple of hours, instead of a couple of days. And while most steam cleaners use an excessive amount of water that often soaks through to the carpet backing and creates a breeding ground for mold and mildew, our low-moisture process doesn’t carry the same risk and offers a safer and more convenient solution. The result is a deeper clean, faster-drying carpets, and a healthier home.
